Swedish Research on Political Participation and Civic Engagement Among People with Disabilities

This article offers an overview of existing Swedish research on political engagement among people with disabilities. In the almost complete absence of prior reviews on similar topics the article adopts a tentative and exploratory approach. Its aim is to chart the landscape of scholarly and empirical studies that, to varying degrees, address issues related to the political participation of individuals with disabilities. This mapping exercise includes a broad interpretation of political engagement, encompassing not only formal political participation (such as voting or party affiliation) but also informal forms of activism, alongside various forms of civic engagement.
