Digital and Media Preparedness

This report provides a preliminary overview of the existing research addressing digital preparedness and media preparedness. It presents the results of a systematic literature review of research on digital and media preparedness, with a focus on civic mobilisation and the preparation responsibilities that are assigned to citizens as part of national security.
The report shows that the discussions on digital and media preparedness are far from new, but interest in this topic has intensified in recent years. While research is catching up with the general developments in public discourse, this report indicates a number of gaps that future research should address, including everyday life and civic preparedness, long-term conditions versus short-term strategies, and comparative perspectives.
